English Dub Review: I’m the Villainess, So I’m Taming the Final Boss “The Villainess Should Be Able to Tame the Final Boss”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Aileen finds out that Claude’s aide, Keith Eigrid, has been selling demons. Keith tells Aileen about the reason why and reminisces about their past. Now that Aileen knows his true feelings, she decides to cooperate with Keith to prevent Claude from despairing about humanity and turning into a demon. At the same time, Cedric and Lilia visit the demon lord’s castle to tell Claude Keith’s secret?!
Our Take:
Aileen has finally moved on from that princely prick Cedric, who continues to be just as awful as Hans from Frozen. However, she still has to win the heart of the game’s final boss to avoid her terrible fate. The major turning point for Claude’s transformation is when his closest human friend betrays him. So Aileen has to prevent this betrayal from happening.
The episode focuses briefly on the relationship between Lord Claude and his aide Keith, who have been friends with Claude since childhood. When Claude saved Keith’s life using magic in public, he was banished by humankind, resulting in Keith’s hopes that humans and demons can coexist being dashed. While trying to rewrite history, Aileen and the aides discover that Cedric and Lilia plan to keep the course intact to assume the throne.
If the last episode doesn’t prove how much of a monster Cedric is, I can bet that this episode will make you want to tear his head off. The main reason why is the scene where Cedric is about to rape a gagged Aileen before Claude comes to her rescue. Cedric is definitely someone you love to hate with a passion because of his selfishness and cruelty. Even seeing him about to commit an awful crime is enough for me to punch him repeatedly until his face becomes mush. However, it does leave a satisfying note when we see his plan fail. If that’s the show’s intention, it did its job reasonably well.
“The Villainous Should Be Able to Tame the Final Boss” serves as a finale to an arc that’s surprisingly shorter than expected. Considering how many more episodes we got left, this is quite unusual for me. Regardless, the episode is a suitable and kind-hearted conclusion that’s smart enough to avoid padding the concept out. Aileen is able to tame the game’s final boss by accepting Claude for who he is and helping him regain his trust in humanity. However, as Aileen stated in the ending, it’s not game over, with its final moment teasing a new arc that sees her going undercover.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
