English Dub Season Review: Shadows House Season Two

Overview:

After the resolution of the debut, Kate and her Doll Emilico have officially become residents of the Shadows House. However, they are under constant vigilance by the Star Bearers—an elite group in charge of the children’s wing. In order to escape from their surveillance and the morbid methods they use to keep everyone’s loyalty in check, Kate and Emilico must be wary of who to trust and aim to become Star Bearers themselves.

Our Take:

I will get the only bad thing out of the way now. When I reviewed the first season last year as I got to the finish of it the second season had been announced. So I knew that there would be this continuation. As of this writing, there is no news of a third season of Shadows House coming. It will affect my score a little bit but ultimately this was a fantastic follow-up.

There is a constant air of mystery in the second season, leading to a pretty awesome reveal. There is a lot more backstory and flashbacks shown here so we get to see what happened to a lot of these characters in the past. But the biggest introduction has to be Christopher who we just get to hear about and everyone seems to worship what he was. The best way I can explain it is that I hope he gets more involved in some of the future plots.

What makes any piece of media good or bad is its characters. There are so many fantastic characters here and we get growth from just about everyone. Emilico of course gets the most but everyone has to learn a little bit about themselves. Patrick seems to be in love with Emilico. John is still trying to win Kate’s favor. There are these little threads and so much more woven into a fantastic show.

If it wasn’t for a good friend of mine this anime would have never been on my radar. But he gave it his seal and when I got an opportunity to review it I thought I would give it a shot. It has become one of my favorites that I am sure I will keep coming back to. I just really hope it gets to continue but if worse comes to worst the manga has been licensed in English so we will get the story one way or another.
