English Dub Review: My Isekai Life: I Gained a Second Character Class and Became the Strongest Sage in the World! “Didn’t Seem Like a Good Time for That”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

According to legend, an emissary is supposed to stop the Blue Moon of Salvation’s leader. Steyl is now convinced that Yuji is the one he’s been waiting for.

Our Take:

Yuji is now ready to confront the cult, thanks to the necessary armor needed for his tamed monsters. Yuji’s discovery of the cult’s weather machine takes him to another village called Ordarion, where the guild’s creation resided. There, he learns more about the Blue Moon cult’s personal goal through Father Steyl.

Steyl was actually responsible for finding the Blue Moon Church, designed to honor the adventurers who met their demise. However, it was quickly taken over by the cult’s leader Walter, who became Steyl’s right-hand man after joining the church. Walter seeks to cleanse the world of all sin and corruption using the Great Divine by any means necessary.

Additionally, a legend depicts an emissary destined to defeat Walter, with the signs pointing to Yuji. However, there’s a catch. For the emissary to be victorious, Steyl has to be killed. So Steyl plans to have Walter murder him so that Yuji has a chance to claim victory. Yuji and the others follow him to Walter’s underground lair, where they walk into a middle of a “conversation” between Steyl and Walter.

As expected, the episode has an exposition-sized plot that features more information on the Blue Moon cult’s origin and how Steyl knows its leader. But, of course, we can’t forget about the whole “prophecy” trope that’s well-known in the isekai fantasy genre. With how powerful Yuji is now and the fact that he can wield the Dagger of Kethis, it doesn’t surprise me that he’d wind up filling those shoes.

Unsurprisingly, “Didn’t Seem Like a Good Time for That” offers very little in the show’s middling execution of its formula, with the episodes throwing in one cliche after another. Despite that, the tenth episode of My Isekai Life suitably sets the stage for another flashy showdown between Yuji and his powerful adversary. Plus, it features Steyl being a badass in fighting off Walter’s followers. That is until he got betrayed by his servant Johann. With the final battle already in place, it definitely doesn’t seem like the best time to turn back, despite my lukewarm feelings about the series so far.
