Review: The Loud House “The Orchid Grief/Forks and Knives Out”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

The Orchid Grief

When Lincoln and Clyde overwater Howard’s rare orchid, the two embark on an adventure to replace it.

Forks and Knives Out

Lynn Sr. is stoked to compete on a televised cooking show until he learns he’s up against Rosa Casagrande.

Our Take:

The first episode consists of Lincoln and Clyde fixing another mistake they accidentally caused. This time, they’re trying to find a rare orchid flower to replace the one Harold gave Howard on their first date.

The humor in this episode consists of Lincoln and Clyde exploring the dangerous swamp in Michigan to find the rare orchid. However, they must avoid a giant mosquito, a group of alligators, quicksand, and Venus Mantraps. They’re like Venus flytraps but bigger and deadlier towards humans. But they’re not the only ones trying to get the orchid, as a mysterious person also wants the rare flower. After a brief speedboat chase, the boys discover that the thief is Harold, who’s attempting to replace the flower as well. Unfortunately, the flower is destroyed, but Howard doesn’t seem to mind since he is tired of arranging his schedule for the orchid.

The second episode’s title is far from a parody of Rian Johnson’s mystery comedy Knives Out. However, it does reflect on Lynn Sr.’s favorite hobby: cooking. Additionally, it features another guest appearance from The Casagrandes, which is appropriate considering that the spin-off series is ending soon.

The humor in this episode consists of the two cooking masters, Lynn Sr. and Rosa, going head-to-head against each other in the cooking show “Kitchen Combat”. With Lincoln and Ronnie Anne by their sides, the cooking buddies provide a sense of friendly competition, which doesn’t please the show’s host. So the host uses the top prizes to get them to battle each other for the ratings, including a high-tech refrigerator and a brand new kitchen. The two chiefs nearly destroyed their companionship through sabotage, only to realize that no prize is more important than friendship.

Overall, both episodes are enjoyable enough to provide entertaining humor in the flower quest and cooking shenanigans. “The Orchid Grief” is a fun buddy-comedy involving Lincoln and Clyde finding a rare orchid in the most dangerous swamp in Michigan. “Forks and Knives Out” offers a friendly competition that almost went sideways thanks to a selfish television host. More importantly, the appearance of Rosa and Ronnie Anne is good enough to fill our empty voids since The Casagrandes is nearing its unfortunate conclusion.
