FOX’s AniDom Orders Animated Drama “His Majesty’s Dragon” ; Turns Down “King Of The Hill” Revival

According to Deadline, renewals for new seasons of The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, and Family Guy are all still being worked on with The Great North getting renewed for a fourth season just a few weeks ago. King of the Hill will NOT be coming to FOX’s AniDom lineup, leaving only some sort of combo of Hulu/FX Networks to be the lone true possible home for any potential re-up from Bandera Entertainment.

Fortunately, FOX isn’t resting on it’s laurels, and has announced that they are bringing back the full Monday night AniDom lineup sometime in Summer 2023 with a two-hour block consisting of Grimsburg, Krapopolis, and the second season of Housebroken. It’s worth noting that both Clue and Bloom County have made key hires as part of their development which could allude to other pickups on the way among a bevy of dev deals that features Bedrock (no voices have been cast yet, but are in the process of doing so for the presentation according to Variety), Ocean Village, Demi-God, Cocky, Shell Beach, and Prince Wawa, so comedy is obviously a big representation here. FOX has also passed on the Married…With Children animated reboot.

That said, animated dramas will also be in tow and along with Rats of NIMH, an adaptation of Naomi Novik’s His Majesty’s Dragon is also in development with Ben Queen writing and EP’ing the project which so far has a script commitment. The series is set during an alternate-history version of the Napoleonic Wars, in which dragons not only exist but are piloted like skyships and choose their own masters. The animated series will center around a dragon named Temeraire and his handler, Will Laurence.

All of this is development slate news, so don’t get too excited, but FOX Entertainment is the only legit threat to Netflix for adult animation supremacy.
