English Dub Review: My Isekai Life: I Gained a Second Character Class and Became the Strongest Sage in the World! “Infiltrating an Ominous Village”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
The bad news? There’s something sinister going on in that remote village. The good news? The cult stationed there has no idea Yuji is on to them.
Our Take:
It looks like Yuji’s quest to recover more firewood and have more delicious food took a different direction. With the discovery of a mysterious trapdoor hidden within the forest, the tamer/sage is one step closer to uncovering another secret from the sinister cult. Hopefully, this means the adventure can get going without any more lunch breaks.
The trapdoor leads to a mysterious cave, which houses a giant machine that uses stolen magic to produce Dragon Grace. Unfortunately, the group responsible for the device is the Blue Moon Cult, led by Javier. Even worse is that the villagers from Messias were also cult members. I always knew something was fishy about that town.
The episode’s first half consists of a confrontation between Yuji and the cult, with Yuji sending the slimes to infiltrate the village and gathering as many texts as possible. But, of course, this led the cult to be highly suspicious, especially after the slimes also took their hidden treasure. This resulted in Javier plotting to use a weapon called Cleansing Flame, which would decimate everything in sight if the cultists died, including Ricaardo village. So Yuji decides not to kill them, but it quickly backfired when the members did the job themselves, thus activating the weapon.
This is where the second half comes in, with Yuji protecting the area outside Messias from the cult’s Cleansing Flame. He swiftly combines every barrier he knows to create Total Isolation Barrier to prevent the Flame from spreading. Afterwards, Yuji returns to Ricaardo to discover that the snow is disappearing, possibly due to the machine being destroyed. The villagers then celebrate Yuji as a hero for finding more firewood and reward him with the finest stew in the village.
“Infiltrating an Ominous Village” makes for an acceptable conclusion to Yuji’s quest in Ricaardo, especially with him having a delicious meal whose taste knocks him unconscious. Unfortunately, it still shows that the series is struggling to make a substantial impact on Yuji’s most challenging battles since they’re surprisingly rushed. The action is still entertaining to watch, but they’re not something worth remembering when considering the strength of Yuji’s undeniable skills and episodic length. Maybe it’ll get something going with next week’s episode when he becomes the target of two suspicious assassins.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
