English Dub Review: Link Click “Search of the Child”
Overview:
A father is trying to find his missing son and he hopes the Time Photo Studio can help him.
Our Take:
Two parents are running their tea shop during a rush while their child is trying to get their attention. The father tells him to watch cartoons outside while they work. Shortly afterwards, the mother realizes he’s gone.
Three years have passed and this is when the cop enters the shop. This is how the last episode ended, but it’s revealed that the cop is handling the missing child case. The father asks for help, but Cheng tells him they can’t go into the past. He’s still shaken up from their last request. Regardless, the father keeps trying to find his son. We also see that the toll this has taken on the mother reverted her into a childlike state.
Later, Qiao tells Cheng that she had actually met the parents before while they were looking for their son. Not only that, but she saw their son the day he went missing. However, she never told them. She asks Cheng to help the family as a favor to her and he agrees.
Cheng goes into a security camera video from that day. Since he goes into a video, he remains himself while inside. He tries to keep an eye on the kid, but he goes missing before Cheng realizes it. Cheng tries to find the child and the adult he leaves with, but he ends up running into Qiao who recognizes Cheng.
I feel for the parents in this episode. Despite their child being gone for three years, the father never loses hope. He’s constantly searching, posting fliers, and doing anything else he can. As for the mother, see her basically emulating her son’s behavior is a little unsettling. It’s effective though because this is an understandable traumatic event. This is how she’s coping with it and her husband is understand about it.
This is very interesting. I wasn’t expecting the cop to be involved with a possible request. I thought he was investigating the shop for some reason, but this is a neat twist. It’s also interesting to find out that Cheng can be sent into videos as well as photos. The most interesting part is that Cheng runs into Qiao from three years ago during the mission. There’s absolutely no way this won’t affect the timeline in some way. I’m very curious to see where this will go.
