English Dub Review: Link Click “Marrying by Contesting”

Overview:

Lu and Cheng help a client learn a martial arts master’s secret techniques so he can marry his daughter.

Our Take:

Qiao Ling wins a bet against Lu and Cheng, so they have to help her with the latest request. A man named Liu Siwen wants to get married to the love of his life: Ou Yang. However, her father is a martial arts master and doesn’t want to accept a non-fighter into the family. The only way he can get her father’s blessing is if he defeats him. Siwen tries year after year, but he can never win. Qiao Ling wants Lu and Cheng to find out what the father’s secret techniques are.

They take the request and Cheng takes the role of Siwen. When he goes to fight the master, he can’t figure out his attacks. The father moves too fast for Cheng to keep up, leaving the mission as a failure. Cheng finds out that Yang was proposed to by someone else, but that becomes a non-factor.

Qiao tells the guys that she met Siwen at his dojo. He had devoted his life to improving at martial arts because that’s how bad he wants to marry Yang. They’re much older now, but Siwen still challenges Yang’s father every year. This time, Lu, Cheng, and Qiao accompany Siwen. He doesn’t even have to throw a punch before Yang’s father finally gives them his blessing.

This is a side story, so it’s not a part of the main series. That being said, I still really enjoyed it. I’m a sucker for a good romance and I appreciate Siwen’s dedication. He sacrifices everything just so he can improve at martial arts. He could have given up at any time, but he refuses because he wants to marry the love of his life. Even Yang’s father acknowledges Siwen’s determination and finally gives the couple his approval. I really admire that and the story is told well.
