English Dub Review: Saint Seiya: Battle for Sanctuary “Cold Hearted”

Shaun continues her battle with the guardian of Gemini. Meanwhile, Magnus comes face to face with his mentor: Aquarius Camus.

Our Take:

A good chunk of this episode is Shaun’s backstory. How she was separated from her brother Nero, how she met Janette and Daedalus, and the beginning of her training to becoming a knight. Shaun manages to defeat the guardian of Gemini, in part because of her brother.

Meanwhile, Magnus is confronted by Camus. Camus tells him to come back to his side and continue his mission to assassinate Athena. Magnus refuses and Camus reveals he’s the one who took Magnus’ mother from him. He also supposedly kills magnus and encases him in ice.

It’s very hard to me to get invested in this show. The backstory is fine, but I’m not just not getting attached to the characters or drawn into the fight scenes. There’s now some decent tension being built with the possible death of Magnus. I’m curious to see if that will actually be a death or if that will be retconned. I have my doubts, but I just want to see the story actually progress.
