English Dub Review: Parallel World Pharmacy “The Chief Royal Pharmaceutist and the Reincarnated Pharmacologist”
Overview:
Farma and his father, Bruno, go to treat the Empress. Farma doesn’t agree with his father’s methods, so he takes matters into his own hands.
Our Take:
Bruno gets a request to treat the Empress, Élisabeth II, and he brings Farma along with him. All Bruno does is give her medicine to ease the pain, but it doesn’t improve her condition. Everyone assumes the end is near, Bruno included, but nobody is doing anything about it.
Farma deduces that the Empress has Tuberculosis, also known as White Death. Farma takes it upon himself to create a new drug to treat her condition. Everyone else is opposed to it, but the Empress agrees to try it.
Bruno doesn’t approve and he does everything he can to stop Farma. However, Farma convinces him that this is the right thing to do. Not only that, but Bruno also learns about Farma’s powers. Ellen previously told Farma not to tell anyone, which he doesn’t until after Bruno already figures it out, but Bruno is still accepting of this.
Farma teaches everyone about bacteria, which will surely improve their medical knowledge. Farma administers the drug to the Empress and promises her recovery. He also makes a drug for his father’s condition. The two have a nice bonding moment when Farma tells Bruno despite the powers he’s gained, he still owes it to Bruno for the knowledge he’s gained.
This show continues to impress me. I didn’t think much of Bruno at first, but he’s really starting to grow on me. I’m liking the bond he’s building with Farma. He realizes that this isn’t the same boy he’s raised, but he still accepts and encourages him. Of course, Farma’s actions are as admirable as ever. He sees nobody is going to do anything to save the Empress’ life, so he decides to do it himself.
Speaking of which, I’m glad Farma explains that the Empress will need six months of treatment in order to be fully cured. I get tired of instant cures in anime and I’m sure we all know that Tuberculosis is a deadly illness, especially in times like these when the medicine wasn’t advanced. It’s nice to see it being treated as an actual killer instead of something that can magically be cured.
The more I see Farma helping people and expanding his pharmaceutical knowledge, the more I root for him. He’s becoming a great protagonist and I want to see him succeed in his goal to make medicine that’s available to everyone.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
