English Dub Review: The Fruit of Evolution: Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made “Creeping Kaiser Empire”
Overview:
Seiichi frees Oliga and she tells everyone her story. Meanwhile, the Kaiser Empire is approaching and the war is about to begin.
Our Take:
We learn about Oliga in this episode. I will say that I’m glad the show doesn’t rush into her backstory like it does with almost every other character. It gives us time to process the character a little more. Of course, this moment is not without Seiichi magically freeing her from her slave collar that couldn’t be removed with magic. However, it could be removed with the power of Seiichi summoning…Abraham Lincoln. What even is this show?
Anyway, Oliga and the other beast children were terained to kill, which is why she tried to assassinate the king. Seiichi and the others forgive her and Seiichi tells Oliga she’ll be like his little sister. I’m sure that will get weird quickly.
We also learn the rival king’s attempted assailant is a man who lost his loved one, who was a demon, due to the king’s hatred of demons. There’s also more demon lord subplot that isn’t interesting in the slightest. There are also monsters that approaching the good kingdom, so Louise has to led the Valkyries and assist in the battle against them.
Honestly, this episode does an okay job at giving us some backstory into a couple of characters. Plus, the war against demons is starting to make a little more sense. However, it’s still far from perfect. There are still too many moving parts here and most of them aren’t connecting.
The episode also has some funny moments and interactions between characters. I have to point out that in the post-credit gag scene where characters go over Seiichi’s stats, Lorna says they put too much content into this episode. I can’t say I agree with that, but I can see that this is one of the better episodes of the show. That’s not saying much, but I’ll take what I can get.
