English Dub Review: Takt Op.Destiny “Destiny -Cosette-”

Overview

D2s awakening. Takt’s hometown being attacked, and Cosette’s death. This was all a part of Sagan’s plan. Felix Shindler wants to get rid of all those inferior to him in this desolate world. After learning the truth about the indirect role Felix had in Cosette’s death, Takt charges at Shindler in a blind rage. But Takt is injured by the musicart known as “Hell”. As she witnesses Takt injured and bleeding, Destiny feels some emotions welling up inside of her that she’s never felt before…

Our Take

So it’s pretty clear this Felix Shindler character is more than just a petty asshole, but a twisted narcissistic madman who hypocritically hates music and has a “cull the wheat from the chaff” mentality with Hell’s ability to control D2’s to attack impoverished area’s around the world that he deems “Inferior”. It’s an interesting juxtaposition that plays with the preconceptions of opposites because while Felix comes across as an inferior God-complex douche whose words betray his actions, Destiny is starting to act more human than ever in this episode with her handling of Takt.

It’s also fortunate that Lenny and Titan arrived when they did to give Takt and Destiny some time for proper bonding, and seeing Destiny becoming more human in taking care of Takt does feel like her character is beginning to emote. She’s nowhere as robotic as in previous episodes but also sympathizes with the rhythms of his remembrance of her as the past life’s Cosette, Anna’s little sister before all hell broke loose. Anna feels the same way too, having to face this reality shoved in her face.

Overall, this was a good episode in terms of actual character development. Everything before this felt like it was building up to something but not knowing what that “something” was. Now I feel like the audience is starting to care about our three leads which were exemplified when Anna decided to finally acknowledge her as an individual but still tells her to call her “Big Sis”. I hope the show can continue to give some nice moments like this during their journey…
