English Dub Review: In the Land of Leadale “A Grandson, a Granddaughter, a Great-Grandson, and a Fortress”
Overview
Cayna visits Sakaiya with the help of Elineh to deliver the letter that Mai-Mai had asked her to deliver. Once she gets there, she finds out that the master of Sakaiya, Caerick, is actually Mai-Mai’s son, which would make him Cayna’s grandson! The surprise was a success! Or so Mai-Mai would’ve hoped…
Our Take
In terms of pacing, I feel like this episode is more fun in concept than in execution. Like, Cayna arriving to the city with clashing architecture where she while delivering letter that Mai-Mai asked her to, she meets head of the very famous and important merchant guild- Caerick, and wouldn’t ou know it? Drops bomb on her that he’s actually her grandson! And what’s her reaction when offering her place to stay and some luxury? Cayna’s filled with rage and scares the shit out of him. And later, meets Ceirina, a really respectable knight in the city, who is also her granddaughter which starts to get really old, and annoying if they were going for a punchline. Honestly, I’m not really a fan of her uncontrolled emotional outbursts, they are only weak people and wanted the best for her…
At the very least, she later apologizes for her previous behavior and seeing her and Caerick’s resolved interactions was pretty fun. Cayna wants to visit a castle that stays on the territory that’s now overrun by bandits and monsters and pass to it is guarded by Ceirina with the most incompetent squad of knights. Incompetent in the sense that in a world where otherworldly creature exist, all of them aren’t properly equipped as the troops poorly assumed they’d be against a small group of bandits but were grossly unprepared…
Overall, a passable episode even if the running joke of Canya overreacting for a cheap laugh wasn’t my favorite thing about this show so far. We’re now 5 episodes in and there’s almost no plot, end-goal, and no consistency in how the characters behave. Canya at the end goes from wanting to keep a low profile and not interfere with other people’s battles to walking out slow clapping and making a scene of her arrival. Hopefully all of this changes later on…
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
