English Dub Review: Deep Insanity THE LOST CHILD “take 08”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
With heavy pressure coming down the chain of command, Vera decides to lead a mission into the Asylum on her own.

Our Take:
The episode sees Shigure and Platoon 11 continuing their assignment to take out EL-Cee in the Asylum. During the process, Shigure attempts to solve the note given by Leslie before his death. Meanwhile, Hayden and Nadia are tracking down Ron Blake and his team, who are guarding EL-Cee.
The plot offered plenty of character moments amid its thrilling mission into the Asylum. One of which involves Vera Rustamova. Not only does it showcase more of her skills with her scythe, but it also reveals her hidden talent that hasn’t been mentioned until now. At the end of the episode, the mysterious man who captures EL-Cee says that he’s aware of Vera’s power to make time repeat.
While the execution for this reveal was handled pretty well, it does result in a couple of plot holes in my eyes. If Vera can repeat time, why didn’t she use it to save Leslie, or better yet, use it to repeat a failed mission to kill EL-Cee? Hopefully, her power and those plot holes will be explained further in next week’s episode.
Another character-driven moment that intrigued me was Shigure figuring out Leslie’s note, which is actually a code of an old photo taken on a Platoon 11 mission. After finding the location shown in the picture, Shigure discovers a silver necklace and Leslie’s notebook, containing a letter addressed to his successor. So, it’s assumed that Shigure will take over for Leslie in case of his death. This side-plot would’ve been more impactful if the series had spent more time on Shigure and Leslie’s friendship before the latter’s demise. But for what it is, it is a decent piece of character development for Shigure that might see him prove his worth to the team.
Overall, “take 08” is another episode that delivers some enjoyable sequences in the Asylum, but not without a few solid character-driven moments. Even though the action scenes here aren’t as gripping as the last two episodes, they still provide enough thrills to keep me engaged. It’s too bad that the Platoon’s mission to kill EL-Cee resulted in them losing her again.
