Our Take:

Its first episode, “Crashing Gargamel’s Party”, sees the Smurfs hosting a big party in Smurf Village. The occasion? Their arch-enemy, Gargamel, is turning over a new leaf. Crazy, I know. However, Gargamel’s change of heart is actually part of his latest plot to capture the Smurfs.

The episode’s slapstick focuses mainly on Dimwitty and Begonia’s dumb personalities as they are easily tricked by Gargamel’s newest scheme. Fortunately, their dumbness proves helpful when they unintentionally drive him and Azrael nuts with their sense of direction. When it comes to episodes centering on slow-witted characters, they tend to drive their viewers up the wall if they’re mishandled. Thankfully, this episode isn’t one of them, as it offered some decent laughs and tolerability from its two dim-witted stars.

The second episode, “The Curse of the Smurfs’ Treasure”, sees Farmer and Vanity discovering a treasure that’s less worthy than they thought. After figuring out that it gives out bad luck, they decide to get rid of it. Unfortunately, that doesn’t stop Vanity from getting his hands on that cursed gem.

The humor in this episode is what I expect based on its title. It’s ten minutes of the Smurfs suffering from lousy luck while Vanity selfishly keeps the gem for himself. Fortunately for them, Vanity sacrifices his own needs for theirs when the bad luck leads them to be captured by Gargamel. The episode did well in delivering its expectations regarding the slapstick, even though it can be repetitive at times.

Overall, both episodes are lucky enough to provide more enjoyable moments in the Smurfs’ misadventures. “Crashing Gargamel’s Party” is a humorous episode starring two of the dumbest Smurfs in the world that’s as enjoyable as Gargamel’s intolerability towards them. “The Curse of the Smurfs’ Treasure” offers some good luck to its bad-luck storyline that sees Vanity discovering that family is more valuable than the cursed gem’s beauty.
