Review: SpongeBob SquarePants “Patrick’s Tantrum/Goofy Scoopers”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Patrick’s Tantrum
Patrick throws a tantrum every time a bell rings, so SpongeBob sets out to silence every bell in Bikini Bottom.
Goofy Scoopers
SpongeBob and Patrick make it their mission to reunite the recently fired robot band.
Our Take:
The first episode, “Patrick’s Tantrum”, is as simple as it sounds. It features Patrick throwing a massive fit, which foils Mr. Krabs’s latest plot to lure customers to the Krusty Krab. The cause of the problem is the bells. While SpongeBob goes out to silence the bells, Mr. Krabs uses Patrick’s tantrum to his advantage to get rich quickly.
At first, I thought this episode would be about Patrick being a fussy baby when he doesn’t get what he wants for ten minutes straight. But it turns out that it actually involves Patrick being an idiot over a tiny noise. Honestly, it wasn’t as irritating as I thought earlier, but that doesn’t make it a great episode. Despite a couple of bright spots in its vibrant animation, the slapstick doesn’t ring as loudly as the bells.
The second episode, “Goofy Scoopers”, has the show pulling the “getting the band back together” out of its pocket. Here, we see SpongeBob and Patrick traveling across Bikini Bottom to reunite the Goofy Scoopers after DJ Two Scoops replace them. Interestingly enough, it features a comical perspective on the transition from old-school to techno music to appease the new generation. While SpongeBob and Patrick are massive fans of the Goofy Scoopers, being man-children and all, the other kids are more into the techno DJ music of today, which adds to the humor of the transition. Other than that, it’s a formulaic episode that offers some solid slapstick, including the bait-and-switch tactic with the garbage truck driver.
Overall, both episodes provide enough tolerability to continue the show’s ever-lasting run. “Patrick’s Tantrum” is one of the weaker Patrick-centered episodes due to its stale humor and plot. Although, the sequence with Patrick defeating a wrestler with his hissy fit was pretty endearing. “Goofy Scoopers” is a typical “reuniting the old-school band” episode that doesn’t offer anything new to its formula despite its amusing slapstick. If I were you, I would prefer listening to the animatronic band instead of Patrick’s ridiculous fits.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
