English Dub Review: Scarlet Nexus “Together Again”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
The platoon manages to infiltrate Togetsu, but getting into BABE’s mainframe is a lot harder. It takes a combination of all of their powers to reach their destination, but eventually they do… only to find that BABE has seemingly been erased from existence. All of the data, research, and answers are gone. As a second resort, Kasane decides to travel back in time to find Yuito’s mom Wakana in order to see what she knows.
Our Take:
I thought that it was too easy for Yuito and Kasane to waltz into Togetsu last week, so I wasn’t surprised that the pseudo-religious cult members didn’t let the gang get their hands on BABE. It did feel really anticlimactic, however. After talking about shutting down Togetsu’s special super computer for the last several weeks and finally getting there, only for everything to already be erased just makes the journey feel kind of pointless. To be fair, that’s kind of the whole show in a nutshell: a ton of jargon and side quests that never adds up to anything substantial or worthwhile.
Kasane’s journey into the past is the most memorable part of Together Again. What with how easy it seems to be for her and Yuito to combine their powers and time travel, I’m a little curious about why they haven’t thought to do it more often, or sooner, as there have definitely been some situations this season where it could’ve come in handy. Regardless, they choose to do it now, and it allows Kasane to visit Wakana, the woman who raised her and gave birth to Yuito, at a crucial time. Unfronuntately, Wakana informs Kasane that Yuito’s fate is connected to the Kunad Gate, and that he will have to die in order for it to not grow to consume the entire world. However, there may be more to it than that, and she’s got some kind of trick up her sleeve, as well as an ear clip thingie that will allow Yuito to retain his memories no matter what.
This blast to the past also explains why Kasane looked so familiar to Yuito when he first joined the OSF, what feels like a lifetime ago. It’s nice to get a little reminder of their backstory, but Wakana really didn’t seem to have much helpful information to share with Kasane. She does go into this whole monologue about how BABE works by using the brains of former Red String users and it just came across as some of the dumbest mumbo jumbo the show has tried to pull off so far. Even though Wakana is in the past, it allowed her to know that Kasane would come visit her from the future? I kind of gave up trying to understand it halfway through.
Luckily, silly explanations aren’t the only thing that Kasane can take away from her trip, as Wakana wants to come back with her! Yuito has a nice moment with her upon the two of them reuniting, and it will be interesting to see what a brand new cast member like her can add to the show at this point. A little more emotional grounding would be nice, but I fear she may just have more diatribes about the Red Strings in her future.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
