English Dub Review: Miss Kuroitsu from the Monster Development Department “The Legendary Emissary from Hell Who Constantly Hears the Screams of the Evil Souls Supping from the Kettle of Darkness Spreads Fear in His Wake as He Awakens”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Kuroitsu accompanies Megistus on a business trip to Kyushu after Sadamaki comes down with food poisoning. During the trip, she realizes Megistus’s dedication to his job. Then, the Monster Development Department attempts to build their latest creation, the Cannon Thunderbird.
Our Take:
The second episode of Miss Kuroitsu emphasizes more on Agastia resembling an ordinary corporation. The first half of episode two features Kuroitsu attending a business trip to Kyushu with Megistus. There, we see more of the Chief of Staff’s generosity towards the main character and his efficiency regarding his work performance. The latter showcased Megistus’s ability to compartmentalize his brain to perform different tasks simultaneously. It makes me wish that I could do that as well.
At first, I thought this segment was the primary basis of the episode based on the description, but it turns out that wasn’t the case. It was only there to expand the character dynamic between Kuroitsu and Megistus, and that’s about it. Despite that, it was an enjoyable yet brief mini-adventure that further explores Kuroitsu’s relationship with Megistus.
The second half follows the basic monster-of-the-week formula like the first episode. This time, it’s the Cannon Thunderbird, a mecha-like bird monster with railguns and thunder abilities. With the assistance of their newest co-worker, Wolf Bete, Kuroitsu and Sadamaki work to get their creature built.
This segment somehow works better than the business trip scenario because it humorously resembles the process of creating a product. We have several companies that attempt to work their way towards crafting the finished project without breaking the bank. Here, we have Agastia looking over the project by having different departments examine the monster design and notifying the changes needed. The final design turned out to be a giant talking bird with a visor and headband. This is another moment in which the show attempts to satirize business operations with decent results.
Overall, the second episode of Miss Kuroitsu continues to provide some amusement in its corporate scenarios. The business trip with Kuroitsu and Megistus doesn’t offer much regarding its story other than Megistus’s dedication. However, the plot managed to get back on track once we got to the monster development part of the episode. With another monster defeated by Blader, it could only get worse for the MDD team from here on out.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
