English Dub Review: Akebi’s Sailor Uniform “My Image?”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Kei, who joined the photography club, asks Komichi to model for some photos. They get started right away, but Kei says the pictures don’t match the image she has of Komichi. Of course, that’s to be expected, considering all Komichi did was copy Fukumoto Miki’s poses.
Our Take:
The episode continues the friendship between Komichi and Kei, who joins the photography club at the end of episode three. The first few minutes of its plot focuses mainly on Komichi modeling for Kei’s photos, only for the former to copy some of the poses from Fukumoto Miki. It somehow serves as a perfect excuse for the show to portray more of Komichi’s appealing poses, which is one of the main reasons it exists, as far as I’m aware. Thankfully, the episode doesn’t waste around 23 minutes on Komichi being sexy for the camera.
Aside from the two characters trying to find Akebi’s image, they spent the rest of the episode hanging out with Touko Usagihara at her dorm. After accidentally getting mud all over Komichi’s uniform, Usagihara invites her and Kei to her dorm to get it washed. During their visit, Komichi learns more about her mother as a student and admires Usagihara’s cooking skills.
While I didn’t mind Komichi and Kei’s journey of self-imagery, I would have to say that I enjoyed their time with Usagihara a bit more. Sure, it leaves the story feeling unfocused, but it hardly matters since it had a couple of standout moments regarding the show’s slice-of-life element. The scene in which Komichi tries and fails to cook for her friends was my favorite part, not just because of its relatability of trying something new but also its charismatic humor.
Overall, “My Image?” may sometimes feel unfocused, but it offers some enjoyment in Komichi’s visit with Usagihara. It provides more development for the supporting characters, notably Usagihara, and showcases some relatable and embarrassingly humorous moments involving self-imagery and cooking. Remind me not to let Komichi cook my food when she visits my place.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
