Our Take
To commemorate the “NFL Wild Card” game, Nickelodeon has been heavily promoting. Casagrande’s did a sports-themed episode. This time around we have another celebrity guest making his appearance and it’s Skateboard legend, Tony Hawk. But unlike Danny Trejo playing an original character, Tony mostly plays an animated version of himself who apparently has ties with Carlos X in a bizarre plot twist that’s later revealed.
As for the other episode, the heart of the story is Carl (not to be confused with his father “Carlos”) trying to look out for a kid he knows that’s being bullied and is motivated by his conscience taking the form of his favorite Superhero The “Falcon of Fire” to help Alexis stand up for himself. Much of the humor though is typically low-brow gross-out stuff which you’d expect for cheap laughs and It goes as far as to transition to the next scene as if you’re seeing comic-book panels.
Overall, both were passable episodes. The Tony Hawk one was decent, well-paced, and found a way to tie Tony’s existence into Casagrande’s lore, while the latter episode at its core is more or less about standing up for yourself. While Carl’s goals were well-intentioned, Alexis in the end learned to stand up for himself in his own unique way.
