Our Take:
While these episodes don’t have anything to do with Christmas, they did offer some enjoyable alternatives for these characters to celebrate the holiday season.
Its first episode, “World Cup”, has Apple and Onion attempting to relax in their rented massage chairs. However, Falafel’s constant screaming during the World Cup made it hard for them to unwind. After their attempts lead to Falafel crashing into their pad to watch the game, Apple and Onion plot the unthinkable to earn their relaxation.
This episode represented Apple and Onion learning to think of others before themselves. They replaced a real soccer ball with a remote-controlled ball to make Falafel’s favorite team lose against Poland. After the animal hallucinations made them realize the error of their ways, Apple and Onion set things right by helping Falafel’s team make the biggest comeback ever, much to their dismay. It’s a suitable and humorous episode where the characters forego their personal needs to help their landlord, even though his constant screaming is a nuisance.
The second episode, “Win It or Bin It”, involves Apple and Onion trying to get a good reference from Falafel to own a new apartment they’ve won in a game show. Unfortunately, Falafel refused as he was annoyed by their overabundance of “cons”. This resulted in Apple and Onion striving to get more pros than cons by giving his plant sunlight.
This is another episode that puts Falafel on the characters’ bad side. While Falafel’s annoyance was tolerable in “World Cup” regarding its message, the same can’t be said for him in “Win It or Bin It”. Apple and Onion’s innocent shenanigans weren’t without a few laughs, including moving the building and replacing the billboard with “nothing”. However, the ending with Falafel tricking them into paying rent and making the new apartment out of styrofoam made me want to eat him for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There were plenty of ungrateful characters I enjoyed watching in other shows, and Falafel struggled a bit to be one of them.
Overall, both episodes of Apple & Onion may not have many holiday festivities in the big city. Still, they delivered enough amusing moments in their surreal comedy and chemistry to continue the show’s hip streak. Despite Falafel’s nuisance in the episodes, I liked them well enough for me to revisit the show sooner or later.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
