Netflix’s Devil May Cry: The Animated Series’ Storyline Will Be Told Over Multiple Seasons
While it isn’t the first time announcements about this were made, Adi Shankar the producer behind Netflix’s acclaimed Castlevania series and the recently announced Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, has revealed in an IGN Interview more details regarding his upcoming anime series based on Capcom’s beloved Devil May Cry franchise.
“The season 1 scripts are done,” Shankar told IGN Japan in a new interview. “They are rad. I could not be more excited.”
The scripts have were written in collaboration with Alex Larsen, who also wrote the screenplay for the feature film Bodied (produced by Shankar and Eminem, among others) and who has more recently written on the Netflix anime series Yasuke.
Shankar explained that Season 1 will include “eight episodes”, but that the story will not conclude there: Just as with Castlevania, he is planning a “multi-season arc”, meaning that it will unfold over multiple connected seasons.
In other news, while he previously mentioned Vergil being in it, this time around Adi also mentions the inclusion of another great supporting character. The tough-as-nails human Demon-Hunter by the name of “Lady” who was introduced in the game’s prequel “Devil May Cry 3” and later became a series regular in future games along with the Madhouse anime series from 2007.
And finally, aside from the scripts going into production later in 2022, the series will also be produced by Hiroyuki Kobayashi who’s been involved with both the Resident Evil and Devil May Cry franchises for years.
Our Take
As a longtime fan of this franchise, I have patiently waited for this since it was first announced in 2018. I’m also glad more details are being added such as Season One being 8 episodes with possibly more to follow.
Jokingly, Shankar also assured fans that Chris Pratt won’t be involved which has become the subject of memes at this point given the recent news of him voicing Garfield and Super Mario in their respective future animated projects, but I’m just left wondering who will voice who once the product is finished.
We at Bubbleblabbber will be sure to share more upcoming news of this Netflix series as it happens.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
