English Dub Review: Tokyo Revengers: “End of war”

Overview: Takemichi (AJ Beckles), Hinata (Lizzie Freeman), Naoto (Griffin Puatu) and Yamagishi (Jonathan Leon) investigate Mikey (Aleks Le) and Emma’s (Carrie Keranen) peculiar rendezvous.

Our Take: With the war having ended, it feels proper for there to be a brief rest period with all the tension that’s been in that air. This gives the show an opportunity to put some much needed time and energy into going just a touch deeper on characters we’ve met but haven’t explored like that of Draken and Mitsuya. The series uses Draken’s home in a brothel as not only to signify with sincerity just how he became a big brother figure to Mikey and overall dignified man, but also to build a bridge of trust between Draken and Takemichi. With Mitsuya, we get to understand some of his school and personal life outside the Tokyo Manji Gang that echoes how much of a responsible leader he is even when he’s not in Toman.

The remaining chunk of this episode is really just some lighthearted affair in the intriguing mystery of whether or not Mikey and Emma are engaged in a secret “romance” from Draken. It’s a frivolous little tale that follows the trek of it’s intended humor coming from deceiving lines and tone that is charming enough on its own for a diversion, one that leads to a surprising reveal of a sibling relationship between the two. The real anticipation comes as the penultimate episode nears its end in Takemichi finally becoming an official member of Toman and there being a momentous truce with Hanma and Valhalla, seemingly.
