OUR TAKE
Another episode of GhostForce for the pile and it’s actually a bit of a step above the rest so far! Not by much, but if I’m covering five of these in a week and the all blend together, I’m going to have to find SOMETHING interesting to say about this one or else these are just going to get more and more boring to read. I mean, they’re probably already like that for anyone who actually wants to read my thoughts about this show, but I hope it’s clear I don’t try to make them that way on purpose. Anyway, this week brings us another episode that sets up a potentially decent plot with Andy having his confidence shaken a bit by a slip up during a basketball game with the stock bully characters. Unfortunately, not much is done with that as the episode kinda gives way to focusing on how cute the cat ghost is. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not against the show taking the time to point out how cute a design is. The character designers worked hard on these so they should get to celebrate their work. It just seems like a bad choice of focus is all.

The other segment actually seems to be showing a bit of change of pace for once, with Liv going against Miss Jones’ orders to take on a ghost on her own. This is a pretty surprising change since Liv has been portrayed thus far as the more responsible member of the team, though you could argue that comes from her believing strongly in their mission to capture ghosts and so this leads her to want to take drastic action when she thinks it will lead to that end. At least, that’s a lot of inference that I could apply here if I was feeling really generous about what the possible intent with that could be, but even that feels like a bit of a stretch. Instead, while I am glad that there seems to be some sort of nudging towards having more serious stories and expanding on the kids’ characters, as well as a bit of a tech upgrade by giving them a new ship, it still feels pretty lacking considering where it could potentially go. Still, it’s definitely a step in the right direction, so hopefully this is a sign of better things to come for the show. Now let’s finish up this week’s batch of episodes on hopefully a strong note.
