English Dub Review: SSSS. Dynazenon “What Was I Entrusted With?”

Overview:

Yomogi, Gridknight, and the others combine into Dynazenon once more for the final battle.

Our Take:

I watched both versions of this episode to try and see what the third thing you’re supposed to keep is. It’s promises, love, and for the life of me, I couldn’t find the third thing! A minor frustration in an otherwise awesome episode but still bothersome to me. I have a lot of minor nitpicks on this show but I will touch on those more in the season review than here so keep an eye out for that.

The first half of this episode was pure unadulterated hype. With the second half being reserved for wrapping most things up. Yomogi had some Kaiju Eugenicist abilities somehow and they came out at the coolest moment. I know I have mentioned this before but when the opening song starts playing you know stuff is about to get real. Not everyone got a conclusion to their problems but the main three did and I suppose we will have to live with that. Perhaps there will be a sequel and they will show up?

The animation for the fight scenes has always been top-notch in this show. Trigger knows what they’re doing that’s for sure. But this episode had so many awesome fight moments that my jaw was dropped for a good five minutes. The animation and soundtrack combined to create an awesome final fight. I do love how Onija got to say “Well, I think I’m for sure dead this time” but I hope that isn’t true!

Aaron Campbell really killed it this episode. He was always really solid as Gauma but this episode was something else. I really appreciated all the little nuances he added. It was an emotional episode and he definitely showed up ready to work.

I’m gonna save some of the rest for the season review. It was recently announced that there would be a follow-up in the SSSS. franchise. I guess that’s a thing now. I don’t know what it will be or anything but I would honestly love for a melding of the Gridman and Dynazenon characters. It seems like Gauma might be a part of Dynazenon now so that would be really cool to me. Also, for all you romance fans out there it does seem to me like Yume and Yomogi are together by the end. They even had the typical anime “I’m embarrassed to say your first name” thing that they like to do.
