English Dub Review: Shadows House “A Birdcage and Flowers”

Overview:

Adult shadows can perform something called a “Union of Bodies”, which is what Edward did. Shaun and John get through a gate with the help of Ricky. Everyone is slowly but surely rescuing their shadow masters. Will Emilico finish the debut in time?

Our Take:

This show… this show is something else. I need more! More answers, more runtime, more everything! Is this “Union of Bodies” something that all adult shadows do? Are the human faces still alive and themselves or are they absorbed? I really love and hate this show at the same time. So intriguing but so few answers.

I really hated Ricky when he was first introduced but he’s grown on me. This show does character development really well. Not for the main two so far but there’s still time. As for Ricky, he seems to be growing and learning. Even accepting his possible death but asking for Shaun to take care of Patrick. I love little moments like this, even Lou showed a little bit of a softer side to Ricky, perhaps that is the reason for his change of heart?

The place where Ricky really came through was after being saved. He and Patrick stumble upon Emilico trying to cut through some thorns. Now it’s his turn to give her the shears from Lou, after all the awful things Ricky said to Emilico I loved this moment. Felt like he was really coming full circle, if you couldn’t tell Ricky gained a lot of respect for me in this episode.

Keeping on the Ricky respect train, his voice actor did amazing. Adam McArthur is relatively new to the anime scene but got one huge role and is killing it in this one. When Ricky was breaking down crying and pleading with Shaun it was voiced so well. I think Adam will be getting many more roles soon. With a lot of the summer shows starting to get dub announcements I imagine he will be in a few.

If you are waiting onย Shadows House…ย Stop! This show is fantastic. The worldbuilding and characters are so intriguing. When the biggest negative I have to say about something is I need more I think that’s a sign. It has a little bit of everything for everyone. Definitely give this show a chance.
