English Dub Review: My Hero Academia “The Hellish Todoroki Family”

Overview:

The kids continue to train with Endeavor and are slowly improving. Todoroki’s older sister Fuyumi invites everyone over for dinner. Deku once again shows how good a friend he is by giving Todoroki some advice.

Our Take:

The Todoroki family has some serious issues to work out. But for what it’s worth the proper steps seem to be going on. Everyone wants to try to reconcile but understands it will take time. Well… everyone but Todoroki’s older brother Natsuo that is. He will take a bit more time which is understandable. We also learned that something bad happened to one of the siblings, Toya, and he passed away.

That’s a lot for one family to unpack and Fuyumi is doing her best. Even the matriarch of the family Rei Todoroki is working towards recovery so she can be with her family again. One thing I commend this show for is that healing doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a long and rocky road and there will be setbacks but hopefully some good will happen for the family. It is a bit idealistic cause very few abusive households heal in this sort of manner. But the biggest theme of My Hero Academia is that there is always hope right?

It wasn’t a bad episode but as far as the main plot goes there isn’t much here. Sure we get a little bit of growth from the boys getting faster but that’s about it. I enjoyed it because the family drama was enjoyable but I know that isn’t what we’re here for. One standout was how hilarious Bakugo was, saying what I am sure we have all thought at awkward family dinners.

We are about to get into a pretty awesome arc if the post-credits is anything to go by. The sub took a break a while back so I imagine there will be a break in the dub as well. Hopefully, it doesn’t leave us on a big cliffhanger.
