Adult Swim News: “Rick and Morty” / Toonami Premieres For August 2021

Toonami has a bunch of syndicated premieres incoming for the month of August. On August 8th, to help celebrate the theatrical premiere of the new WarnerMedia film The Suicide Squad from James Gunn, Adult Swim is doing a marathon of the entire first season of Harley Quinn which is currently in production for a third season for HBO MAX. The marathon kicks off @ 1030 pm ET/PT and will run the rest of the evening until the first season is completed.
On August 15th, Toonami finally gets an original series premiere for Fena: Pirate Princess starting @ Midnight ET/PT with a dual-episode premiere. This is a big deal, as Adult Swim has already announced five original series in various stages of production for Toonami, VP Jason DeMarco has teased that six more are in other stages of development. Unlike say Food War: The Fourth Plate which gets it’s linear premiere on August 22nd, the series is available in it’s English dub format on Crunchyroll right now. For Fena and the other co-prods with Crunchyroll, those will be original series that will premiere over the course of the next several years on Toonami first, before they are available anywhere else.

There wasn’t a TON of Rick and Morty news at the Comic-Con @ Home panel. Really, more to do with the upcoming Rick and Morty vs Dungeons and Dragons which is slated for release on August 25th via Oni Press. That said, there’s gonna be a lot more Rick and Morty coming in August timing with the show’s season five finale which is slated for August 22nd.

On August 3rd @ 12:30 am ET/PT, Adult Swim will premiere a brand-new anime short from Takashi Sano ( Rick And Morty Vs. Genocider) inspired by the series entitled “Summer Meets God” (Rick Meets Evil). The synopsis reads, “Summer’s new boyfriend isn’t human, Jerry’s in big trouble as usual, and Rick is well…just being Rick”. Then, August 13th sees a Rick and Morty season five marathon to help everyone catch up before the big finale on the 22nd.
