English Dub Review: I’ve Been Killing Slimes For 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level: “Along Came the Daughters”
Overview: After enjoying their day, Aizawa (Skyler Davenport) and Laika (Rachelle Heger) get a visit from an unexpected visitor.
Our Take: Do you know what a cutesy, fun fantasy isekai needs to make it even more tooth achingly sweet? The addition of cute little (fifty-something) twin girls to the main cast of course. Also, wouldn’t you know it they are slime spirits and the Azusa’s daughters too! Why you may ask? Well, because all that slime hunting caused them to be born so that means she is their mother. Yeah that sounds about right. Right? Well, it is if you know what kind of show you are getting here. If the first episode didn’t already tell you, then this one sure as heck makes it loud and clear.
In the events leading up to the witch meeting her two unbeknownst children, I was reminded once again why this show gets as high a score as it does. I’ve Been Killing Slimes is very competent when it comes to delivering some adorably funny art in their body language/expressions, like that of Aizawa finding out her daughter wants to kill her on behalf of all the slimes she’s destroyed. Not to mention there was some good comedic timing as well with her dead silence right after the reveal of one of the girl’s true identity being well placed. It’s these types of elements that get a few quick chuckles throughout and makes it endearing enough for me to enjoy my time with it.
Of course, with this type of lighthearted show, the murder plot ended the only way it could. With a gag. And predictably with Aizawa becoming their parent guardian and taking them in like the lost little lambs that they are. And thus they became a part of Azusa and Laika’s extended family moving forward and lived happily ever after. And with yet another heartfelt lesson for our little witch about family. But it’s decently well acted with Skyler Davenport showing an evolving Aizawa, so there is that. Like I said, this show wears its heart on it’s sleeve. At the end of the day it knows it’s a fluffy teddy bear and embraces it’s warm and cuddly nature. It’s not overly complex or even deep. Nothing is a better example of this than the show rather than teasing its next members, it just straight up telling us what the next few character additions are, race wise at least. If you know what you are in for, at the very least, you will be able to find some joy in these antics. Only to forget about it moments later and proceed to move on with your day.
“Along Came the Daughters” really does…just that and shows how Azusa’s daughter came along. It’s yet another fine enough funsized romp that you will get some enjoyment out of. But, it also doesn’t try too hard to do anything else really. Although, for what it is going for, you probably won’t mind anyway.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
