English Dub Review: Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a Starter Town? “Suppose Someone Suggested taking a Short Trip to Neverland, or Something Impossible like that?”
Overview:
Everyone gets to see where Lloyd gets all his… uniqueness. We get to see Mertophan again, this time rocking a fundoshi which makes Choline have no idea where to look. A dragon shows up but don’t worry it’s just a “flying lizard” to the people of Kunlun.
Our Take:
Well, Kunlun is about as crazy as we thought it would. Long-distance communication is carried out by throwing rocks into the mountains or straight-up shooting someone out of a canon. Everyone is super strong and can jump directly into the second floor of their home even the children. Also, the fighting style that Phyllo has been working on her whole life is apparently a warm-up routine here in Kunlun.
This is off to a fun start and I imagine it will get serious before too long but as this show has demonstrated they are able to toe that line rather impressively. It was also nice to see Mertophan again, I felt that just like Mircona, he was used against his will. He brings another layer of comedy to the show with his fundoshi and new obsessions with agriculture.
Speaking of nudity! There’s a scene where Lloyd walks in on Riho naked. I was wondering how they would handle this since Lloyd is one of those “do no wrong” types of characters. Interestingly, Phyllo kicked him straight into the mountain from the window. Maybe she fits in, in Kunlun too? I might have had best girl wrong this whole time… (Just kidding, Selen is an angel).
A dragon attacks the house and these people react so nonchalantly. How you and I would react to an annoying bird is how this town treats dragons. I complained about how this joke was starting to get stale but somehow involving the whole town makes it funny again. At least in this context, it’s not JUST Lloyd and we get to see where he learned this behavior on dealing with “pests”.
Selen… my poor, poor Selen. She came into town with tons of marriage contracts in tow and expecting to win over Lloyd’s family. What actually happened was she was the only one not complemented by someone. Phyllo even got the endorsement of Lloyd’s grandpa himself!! It’s okay though, as we know best girl always wins in the end.
We have two more episodes left and I think those ones will be at least a little bit more on the serious side. I am going to honestly miss this rambunctious cast of characters. It felt like some got introduced too late for us to really get to know them. I really enjoy this show but unfortunately, I think it is definitely one of those “go read the source” types of shows. Which I might do after this but I just hope we get more of this series in the future.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
