English Dub Review: My Hero Academia “Operation New Improv Moves”

Overview:

The two homeroom teachers handle the aftermath of the first battle and go over what everyone did well and needs to improve on. The next team battle begins with Team A and B being led by Momo and Kendo respectively. We also get a flashback of Tokoyami’s time with number two hero Hawks.

Our Take:

Remember when I said I want 1-A to lose some of the mock battles? Yeah… I just kind of hope it’s not this one. I have a soft spot for everyone in this group. Momo’s self-confidence took a big hit in season two and has slowly been rebuilding, let’s give this W to her yeah? Though thematically Kendo’s group winning would also make sense because she is like Momo’s counterpoint in 1-B.

As long as it’s a well-done battle I am sure it will be fine, let’s just have Bakugo’s group lose! Who am I kidding, everyone has reasons they should win, and just like in real life, we can’t all win. I think that’s another thing that really sets this show apart, some of our favorites suffer a lot of defeats. Though I think Deku has been winning almost too much since the sport’s festival so it’s probably time for an L.

I just realized this has turned into an MHA sports commentary situation, I apologize. If you read my opening line you might have guessed this episode has a lot of Tokoyami in it. If he’s your favorite like a friend of mine you will love this episode. I really love Tokoyami and feel he is criminally underused, we need more dark shadow in our life.

One thing I always forget is that he is voiced by the harem king himself Josh Grelle. Usually, I can tell Josh Grelle a mile away but with Tokoyami it’s always tough. I think he does a great job with the angst that he’s known for I mean how many times can someone say “revelry in the dark”?

I wanted to talk about the soundtrack a bit, MHA always has great tracks that fit everything really well. Heck, there are so many videos showing how “You Say Run” can go along with anything. During season four and the movie, Heroes Rising there was a new song introduced. It’s called “Might+U” and it’s sung by Makayla Phillips, if you are familiar with the song you might have noticed it playing in the background a few times so far this season. Not with the lyrics but it still produces the desired effect, I get goosebumps every single time.

Next week we will more than likely get the conclusion to this match, and I honestly can’t tell how it will go. 1-B has the upper hand for now but who knows? Everyone has grown after all. Though I am super intrigued to see just what the girl who is making mushrooms grow can do. I really like where this is going, place your bets on the victors for next week. Who do you think will come out with the most victories, 1-A or 1-B?
