English Dub Review: My Hero Academia “Foresight”

Overview:

We reach the conclusion of the battle between the two genius girls of Class 1-A and 1-B. Momo and everyone put up a hell of a fight but Kendo and her team were determined to win this one.

Our Take:

Okay… I know I said I wanted 1-B to win a match or two but damn… did not see that coming. Did not think they would absolutely trounce them though. 5-0 was the final score of this battle. Though I think this is one of those instances of the final score not reflecting how tough the battle actually was.

This was one I kind of thought 1-A was going to come through on just because it would have been great to see Momo come full circle since the sports festival. She lost a lot of confidence that but maybe she has grown so much that she will realize losing her doesn’t necessarily mean she’s weak. I think that would be a good way to show growth, hopefully, we get a match breakdown in the next episode.

There has been one recurring joke throughout this arc that I think bears mentioning. The homeroom teacher of 1-B has absolutely biased commentary when it comes to this training exercise. Constantly praising his class while simultaneously putting down 1-A. The best part is members from 1-A call him on it every time and I hope there is a payoff for it when we end this arc.

Now that I know that 1-A won’t always win this arc has gotten a lot more interesting. I can’t wait to see how a lot of these matchups will play out. I am most interested in Deku and Bakugo’s matches. I think Deku should lose and Bakugo should win. I know Bakugo technically won in the sports festival but that was a hollow victory and that is why he was so upset so I think he needs a legit win.

It’s really nice to finally get to see some development from 1-B, I was always interested in their class and we get to see a lot of the ones that haven’t really gotten much time in the spotlight. Kendo and Monoma are always the faces of the class, and Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu had a moment for being the same as Kaminari and his weird name. This time we got to see Kinoko Komori in action.

You would think someone who can just make mushrooms grow wherever wouldn’t be all that strong. This show however makes smart use of everyone’s quirks. To defeat Tokoyami she grows a mushroom in his windpipe. I don’t know about you but choking on a mushroom that just spontaneously started growing in my throat would make me give up fighting real quick.

I am really loving every episode so far, I feel like a broken record mentioning it so much at this point. I wanted 1-B to win one and win one they did. Now there is actually some tension to the upcoming matches. Having the guts to not let the precious 1-A win makes me really excited. Let’s see what is in store next week.
