English Dub Review: Mars Red “Purgatory”
Overview:
An episode entirely centered on Kurusu as he deals with the aftermath of the earthquake. It definitely has a feeling like a post-apocalyptic movie or something. Aoi is handing out bread to people because the paper isn’t running but her boss tells her that it will be back up. She catches a glimpse of Kurusu, at least we are lead to believe it’s him.
Kurusu visits Yamagami’s wife to make sure she is okay and she tells of another officer that visited? Who could it have been? Kurusu helps a vampire woman and some recently turned vampire children from berserking vampires. It turns out the vampire vaccine that is being supplied actually turns people into vampires. Kurusu finds a shelter for the good vampires and goes on a mission to get some blood for them but is attacked by the new vampire force.
Our Take:
This is how you take a show to the climax properly. Everything has been building up to something big and there are just enough mysteries left that it piques interest to see how events will unfold. One of the main mysteries is Kurusu and how the main character has probably had the least amount of screentime. If this episode was anything to go by I have a feeling the next few episodes will be very Kurusu heavy.
Zach Aguilar used to be a voice actor I wasn’t a huge fan of. Every time I saw him in a role I would roll my eyes, especially because it seems like he is in everything lately. I don’t know if he will ever read this but I feel I have to apologize. He is amazingly talented and now he has become one of my favorites. At the beginning of this episode, he is quietly delivering an ultimatum to some of the rebelling vampires and you can just feel the anger and pain in his voice. Keep doing what you’re doing Zach it’s amazing.
I really like the unique animation style for this show. I know for the first episode I mentioned I love when they show characters moving really fast. When Kurusu moves so fast he essentially blinks out of existence it’s so amazing to see. A lot of the other vampires do it too, one minute no one is there then the next there is.
Everything about this show is high quality, animation, sound design, and of course the voice acting. I hope we get some questions answered about the current whereabouts of the rest of the zero squad next time though. Once again Mars Red delivers an excellent episode.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
