Our Take
As the title implies, “Silence of the Luans” sort-of parodies the iconic psychological horror film “Silence of the Lambs” with Luan as the Hannibal Lecter archetype due to her track record of causing shitty pranks that have nearly put the family in danger to the point that they’ve imprisoned her in a glass-like prison cell which in reality, I doubt they make anymore and while it’s arguably played for laughs, it’s the kinda shit that child protective services would crack down on. When a new Prankster is causing havoc within the family, Lincoln has to come to Luan for help in stopping whoever it is, much in the same way Clarice had to come to Hannibal for answers in how to stop such an antagonist. But when the real culprit is revealed, it’s somebody even I wasn’t expecting…
For the 2nd episode, it felt like the setup to the 1999 Drew Barrymore movie “Never Been Kissed” but here the scenario is different since the premise is not only an older person going undercover as a high school student to learn about the youth of today but what a real parent should be when it comes to connecting with their teenage kids, which Rita goes a bit too far with sticking to her fake persona just to connect with them in some way. It does lead to a predictable twist at the end where they take the Mrs. Doubtfire approach of Rita having to switch between herself and her fake identity “Britta” but at the very least there was a redeeming and meaningful message at the end.
Overall, both were decent episodes that also worked as movie parodies. While I doubt any parent would let their kids watch “Silence of the Lambs” to get the in-jokes & references to that particular film, it still gave me a good chuckle. As for the other episode, it had a meaningful message in the end that despite how much parents may think they’re losing a connection with their kids. At the end of the day, we need to acknowledge & respect their independence when they reach that proper age. And have both the trust & faith that if your kid loves you enough, they’ll come to you when it’s legitimately needed.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
