Our Take
Sometimes one of the things that can suck about being cool is that it never lasts and that’s somewhat the case here with Carl’s popularity being outclassed by Adelaide despite herself being a newbie student, but due to a series of comedic mishaps, But near the end of the episode Carl’s crisis begins to intertwine with a subplot involving a “Breakfast Robot” when their sensei Par starts a school demonstration in the hopes of recruiting new students to keep his business going. But in despite the troubles that are played out before them, the story works itself out through sheer honesty and humility on Carl’s end…
As for the latter episode, Hector discovers a proverbial Goldmine with the gimmicky red tacos made by his wife Rosa which at first goes great for them but progressively the dynamic changes, for the worst in a lot of ways. Eventually, Hector under Ronnie’s advice decides to tell Rosa how he feels about this affecting the both of them which has a surprising twist even I didn’t see coming.
Both were passable episodes even if the former felt like a recurring running joke of Carl always being upstaged by a little girl which could be either Nickelodeon attempting to go “Woke” or just lazy writing. While the 2nd episode was a bit of a “Mr. Mom” scenario with the roles reversed in terms of who’s making the most money, And in all their years Hector has lived with Rosa, you’d think he’d have some degree of skills in terms of housework. Despite this also not being Ronnie focused, at least she served as the voice of reason for what Hector is going through and still proves that communication is important when it comes to a long-lasting marriage.
