English Dub Review: So I’m a Spider, So What? “Does Catfish, Taste Good?”
Overview
As the Spider-Lady delves further into a new layer, she’s seriously unprepared for the blazing subterranean inferno stretching out before her eyes! The spider webs that have been her only multi-tasking tool are completely useless in this scenario, and she can’t survive a conflict with monsters that can swim in magma, or at least not yet…
Our Take
This episode was another decently paced one, and the visuals were probably the best in a long time, probably on par with episode 1 (wouldn’t surprise me if they had the same team), the CG looked really good thanks to the lightning coming from the lava. Also, the human scenes are finally starting to get interesting to a certain extent, but not too much. The progression system as far as I can tell, is the backbone of this anime, and seeing how the Spider-Lady grows and beats new monsters is what manages to keep things compelling on a consistent level…
The magma portion of the cave though sure is doing well in forcing the Spider-Lady to think tactically and tests the limits of her survival skills. So far every encounter has been her either completely annihilating an enemy on the first try or training for maybe like a minute of screen time and then annihilating the enemy. Her last encounter before this with the monkeys seemed like a really tough one for her, so I expected this episode with all-new types of creatures to be just as (or possibly even more) difficult as the last one.
Overall a fun episode that served well to establish Spider-Lady trying to survive in harsh environments. I think it took the story a bit too long for the Spider-Lady to be in the cave, we’re about 5 episodes in and she’s still in the cave and only been leveling. At times, it feels like the author has seemingly tried to patch up ANY possible plot holes or confusion to fit the widest possible audience, hence so many info-dumps between certain characters or the Spider-Lady comprehending her situation. I keep wondering if this will lead anywhere, or if they’ll meet somehow, but I’m at least hooked enough to keep watching.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
