English Dub Review: Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki “It feels awesome to gain a bunch of levels after a battle”

Overview

As Aoi’s approach to help improve Fumiya Tomozaki’s lifestyle by treating his everyday life stuff like a videogame begins, Fumiya is first tasked with the concept of social interaction by talking to three girls he has never conversed with before while wearing a mask. With Aoi’s help, Fumiya starts on a step-by-step basis of talking to 3 girls: Minami, Yuzu, and Fuka (of his random choosing) for a start as classmates, but it’s not without its own problems…

Our Take

This was a lot better than the first episode which had all that cringe gamer talk, surprisingly they went much more in-depth into the whole improvement aspect than I had anticipated. All I’m worried about is if this will turn into a harem anime which would be predictably cliche, but I hope this can end up being something decent. From conversations to posture, the goal is slowly increasing its difficulty for Fumiya to reach (and earning real-life experience along the way).

At least Fumiya is getting some exposure with communicating with others within his class and trying to adjust to minor things like his posture like what he learned from Aoi to get a better feel for the whole “game of life” stuff in a sense. This was better than the first episode but there is still room for improvement. I think it’s good to develop conversational skills but Fumiya doesn’t really need to be popular/have a girlfriend if he doesn’t want to be. But his moment of truth to apply the skills he’s acquired from his experiences will show how far he’s progressed.

With more game-themed conversations to introduce new and expand current topics, Aoi is really going the extra mile to help Fumiya regain his footing through resources to push him further, and we’re about to see how far this will come into play with something Aoi has invited him to be part of in the next episode…
