Our Take
For the former episode, much of the episode’s plot structure follows the same beats as movies like “The Goonies” or the comedy “Rat Race” where it progressively results in more people trying to get their hands on the fabled treasures, but by the twist ending while bittersweet, tries to work itself out in the end.
As for the latter episode, three of Carlos’ kids become obsessed with disrupting their parent’s anniversary chances to ride together in an old warplane, and in a series of mischievous & comedic mishaps, they attempt to go the extra mile by messing with every babysitter just so they can actually be there with them. Progressively, it leads to a funny and unexpected ending that feels like proper comeuppance for mostly Carl more than his two other brothers as he’s often the one with the hair-brained schemes.
Overall, both were decent episodes, and surprisingly Ronnie-Ann isn’t in either of them. But at least the writing tries to be compelling and funny at the same time.
