Rumor: New Mortal Kombat Animated Film In The Works
Last year the direct-to-home release of Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge which was so good it was named one of the best movies of 2020 by our critics, and it looks like some sort of follow up project could be in the works entitled Mortal Kombat 3. According to The Illuminerdi which first reported this, a casting call has been released that features a number of Mortal Kombat characters that you can see below. The site has it’s own theories on the storyline, but given my increased expertise on the MK franchise, I think I’m going to be a bit closer:
Kobra – Male – (25-35) – Fiery street fighter, standing voice is raspy.
Kira– Female – (25-35) Troublesome, sadistic, cruel but level-headed. Mid to low register with scratchy and textured voice.
Tremor – Male – (30-40) Looking for an African American voice to sound . Bold, weighty, strong voice, intimidating and burly.
Kuai Liang – Male – (60-70’s) – Asian Male. A warrior who is now a pacifist. Seasoned, strong, and powerful voice.
Kabal – Male – Ninja with a scarred face, immovable bad-ass, mid to low register.
Our Take
In the games, Kobra, Kira, Tremor, and Kabal are all members of the Black Dragon clan which was originally founded by Kano. In the game, Havik actually convinces Kabal to revive the defeated Black Dragon after Kabal was nearly killed in battle by the leader of the Red Dragon, Mavado, only to be revived and able to get his revenge. Kuai Liang is the second iteration of Sub Zero, though producers of the rumored film appears to be casting for a much older depiction of the classic MK fighter. My guess is we’re going to see some sort of conflict between the Black Dragon led by Kabal versus Sub Zero’s Lin Kuei which features the likes of Frost and a slew of robots (most famously, Smoke, Sektor, and Cyrax) as part of the ranks. I don’t believe this animated film would have any connection to the live-action movie because the live-action movie is casting for Bi-Han who is the original Sub-Zero and Kuai Liang’s predecessor who, in the game, is killed by Scorpion and revived by Quan Chi as Noob Saibot. It’s worth noting that in Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge, Kano is killed at the hands of the Special Forces unit of Sonya Blade and Jax, along with Johnny Cage. It’s more likely the plot of Mortal Kombat 3 is a sequel that sees the Black Dragon clan reform in Kano’s ashes.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
