Review: Total Dramarama “Ghoul Spirit”
Overview
The resident Token Goth of the Daycare center, Gwen rejects the friendship of a ghost she supposedly purchased online when said ghost doesn’t meet her expectations…
Our Take
To me, this was always a confusing anomaly of a show as the “Total Drama” franchise was a Canadian Animated series that has always relied heavily on parodying reality shows with character archetypes who hardly know each other that are usually thrown into goofy & weird situations hosted by a shady douchebag named Chris who often got rich at their expense. Now we have what feels like an alternate universe where everyone already knows each other in what feels like an edgy “Muppet Babies” equivalent of the original show which makes the proceedings all the more bizarre.
What makes things even funnier is Courtney & Jude taking it upon themselves to help this “Ghost” named “Floater” meet Gwen’s definition of “Scary” as he’s a beyond blatant parody of Casper who’s friendly disposition makes no effort in scaring everyone else but her.
Later on, the show wastes no time with parodying GhostBusters when Chef Hatchet calls a small service called “Ghostbreakers” which progressively takes a darker & comedic direction with its twist ending.
Overall, this was a weird but mildly entertaining episode even if the ending wasn’t what I expected. But then again, the entire episode was about playing with expectations in general.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
