Review: Doomsday Brothers “Two Boys and Their Poor Poor Dog”

Overview:

Humunga returns to the town in search of men to make babies with her Amazonian tribe. With Raif heavily on board, the town trades the brothers for a slew of supplies.

Unfortunately for Raif and Gabe, the tribe just wants their seed without any of the fun. Despite Rafe being short on supply, the boys meet their quota only for the dog to accidentally eat it. The Amazons threaten to kill the brothers, but, when they are taken to meet the queen, Rafe quickly gains his vitality back.

Meanwhile, Danica is struggling with the ethics of where the town’s new supplies came from. To fairly decide if the town should enjoy their new bounty she agrees to a democratic debate with Anna.

Our Take:

The world of Doomsday Brothers is starting to reach out much larger than first anticipated. Much like the show has grown more and more on us during it’s few available episodes. The series is proving each week that there is more depth here than you see at first glance. Besides the ongoing dramatics of the townspeople, there are many characters outside the village that have a part to play.

Tonight’s episode included the return of the first villain, Humunga and her tribe of Amazonian women. The same antagonists that were featured in the premiere episode of Doomsday Brothers last month. Beyond them, many of the other characters are interacting.

Even Judith came close to contacting her sons and telling them that she is alive.

It becomes more exciting to watch this series as it progresses. Multiple questions demand answers, as well as there being an entire wasteland to explore.

Again, Doomsday Brothers pushed the boundaries of appropriateness. Last week’s borderline bestiality was answered this week with way too much masturbation than is necessary for a 22-minute show. And having the dog consume the overly animated “seed bechamel” was as disturbing as anything we have seen in adult animation.

There was a glaring hole in this episode involving a character that we have yet to officially meet. John Smith as he is called was approached by the brothers as though they have met before. However, as fans, we are left clueless as this is our first time meeting the handsome lone wolf. Surely, there must have been an unaired pilot episode that fills many of these holes. We can only hope that it airs before we progress too far into the series.

The rest of the episode did not offer much entertainment. Danica was a standout character the first time we met Humunga and her tribe. This time around her debate with the townspeople over their new supplies only slowed things down for the rest of the show.

Equally, Judith’s side story is beginning to feel repetitive. There is only so much you can do with someone trapped in a bunker with nowhere to go and nothing to do. We can only hope something new happens for her and Aenus soon.

Regardless, this was a fun episode that showcases how big the world of Doomsday Brothers will eventually get. Some of the difficulty connecting with characters and establishing plotlines are just the growing pains for a series that developed an ongoing story through an 18-episode first season. This episode falls more in line with plot development than being a climactic entry.
