Our Take:

Doomsday Brothers is the first original Canadian adult animated sitcom to premiere on Adult Swim Canada. The series is produced by Portfolio, who typically release content for children and preschoolers. This is the companies first foray in adult content while taking Canada beyond the adult animation remakes like Corner Gas Animated and Trailer Park Boys

The series follows two brothers that have managed to escape their protective bunker in a post-apocalyptic world. Their intelligence and skills have made them great assets to a local community who was in heavy need of protection.

This premiere episode may not have been the ideal spot to start the new series. Instead of explaining some of this background, the episode throws us into this mutant infested world without much context on who the characters are. Though, hopefully, there is a pilot episode that we will see further on in the season. For now, though, this episode is difficult to follow without the necessary context.

Although, the series does deliver on the promised adult content. The main female character, Danica, seems to be openly gay and drops more than her share of sexual innuendos when introduced to the lesbian barbarian tribe.  And the sexual content does not stop there.

One of the more interesting things that this show is doing is delivering a plethora of strange and unique looking characters. Whatever caused this version of the Earth to fall apart it led to everyone being mutated.

With that said, no two characters look the same. Therefore, the only players that look normal are the ones that survived within the bunker including the brothers and their mother, Judith.

The lack of exposition to ease us into this series is a bit of a hurdle when it comes to reviewing. Additionally, there is a serious lack of information to be found about the show anywhere on the internet.

However, every show needs a few episodes to find its feet. As it stands there are a few reasons to start watching Doomsday Brothers as soon as possible. The humour is prominent, relevant, and appropriate to the theme. The designs are unique and fascinating, with details to fill every scene. And given time, the series could fit right in amongst the Adult Swim line-up.

For a brand-new series without much context, Doomsday Brothers checks all the boxes of being high in potential.
