Ranking Every Episode of “Rick and Morty” Season Four From Worst To Best

  1. One Crew over the Crewcoo’s Morty

Bob Ross called himself a lazy artist because, rather than painting individual tree leaves and grass blades, he flicked his brush to create shapes that resembled these things. The creators of Rick and Morty are no different in this regard, as they frequently look for opportunities to use senseless storytelling in such a way that, in the grand scheme of things, it appears deliberate and purposeful. Interdimensional Cable II, Total Rickall, Morty’s Mind Blowers and, of course, Never Ricking Morty all make use of this technique, as does One Crew over the Crewcoo’s Morty, and though its attempt at tricking the viewer may be inferior to some of the others, it’s still worthy of recognition. In a previous article, I explained how Harmon and Roiland figured a way to bring back the Mr. Poopybutthole character without them doing so seeming like blatant fan-service. By setting up a situation in which Rick had to counter Heist-o-Tron’s calculated plans with random decision-making, they were able to fill up several scenes with the most ridiculous content, and the result was something Rick and Morty does best: have their cake and eat it, too.
