The Shivering Truth kicks off it’s second season for Adult Swim on May 10th @ Midnight, unless if the network decides to do another scavenger hunt like they did last year. The premise of the show is that of a horror-anthology animated in stop-motion. This season, the producers actually switched stop-motion studios from Shadowmachine to HouseSpecial, but the amazing Cat Solen returns to direct. The quarter-hour series was created by Vernon Chatman.

While the series is that of an anthology series, each segment of the episode does keep some sort of underlying moral throughout. This season, expect to see premises revolving around the history of the United States (timely), shitty parents, and of course, the universe.

The first season of The Shivering Truth was off the chain, this season looks to be pushing those boundaries. Show creator Vernon Chatman has a history of pushing boundaries in the form of such series as South Park, Wonder Showzen (director James Gunn’s recently listed this as one of the ten most underappreciated series), and Xavier: Renegade Angel.

The Shivering Truth isn’t for the faint of heart, and I was actually surprised to see the show premiere BEFORE JJ Villard’s Fairy Tales. There’s something about violence that comes from stop-motion that for some reason makes it feel more personal and legitimate. Often times, producers will use tricks seen in real horror/thrasher films to replicate blood and guts which offers a more visceral experience than say hand-drawn.

The Shivering Truth premieres May 10th only on Adult Swim, check your local listings. Read our review of the sneak peek episode here.
