English Dub Review: Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Golden Wind:”Beneath a Sky on the Verge of Falling”
Overview (Spoilers Below)
As Risotto lays injured due to the clever use of the Passione Boss’s trickery & misdirection of getting Narancia’s Stand to blindly attack him, Bruno and Narancia decide to scale the cliffs to check on the enemy while Abbacchio rewinds the past with Moody Jazz for any clues about the Boss’s identity. Meanwhile, the Boss orders Risotto to give him back his blood nutrients since lack of Iron in the blood is putting Doppio/The Boss close to death but the assassin attempts a last-ditch attack, which fails because the Boss uses his Emperor Crimson Stand powers through the use of tricking Narancia’s Lil’Bomber Stand into opening fire once more, which kills Risotto permanently. Next, the boss while still under his Doppio persona begins to make some unthinkable and despicable choices to regain some iron to stay alive as Bruno and Narancia head to the scene of the battle.
Around the same time, Abbacchio uses his Moody Jazz Stand to search & rewind to the past of the Costa Smeralda beach, in an effort to recreate the boss’s face. But as Bruno and Narancia find Risotto’s corpse riddled with more holes than Robocop’s infamous ED-209 scene, they unexpectedly find a completely different crime scene involving a helpless young boy and slowly you begin to unravel what’s really going on… Back on the beach, Abbacchio is briefly distracted by a group of young soccer-playing kids trying to retrieve their ball from a tree.
But as Abbachio goes to help the soccer kids get their ball, some unexpected shit happens that even caught me off guard in the worst possible way. It’s hard for me to talk about it, but the last time you see Abbachio at first your left confused at the dream-like imagery that’s heavily atmospheric but everything slowly begins to make sense. When Bruno’s group comes across a very shocking and heart-wrenching discovery, The episode ends when Bruno’s crew comprehends the severity of their situation, while Giorno discovers an important clue that Abbachio found which will be essential to their quest…
Our Take
The music alone in this episode was superb and it’s probably what made the whole episode more emotional. Not to mention the effort the voice actors put into making this scene even more amazing, they really respectably deserve recognition for this, and this just goes to prove that Viz picked an excellent voice cast when it comes to English dubbing with the highlight of this episode being Kyle McCarley’s dubbed performance as Narancia who really sold the drama.
I also gotta give points to the strangely accurate take on science: You see given that Doppio/The Boss was lacking in Iron, ingesting/drinking blood is a fast way to replenish iron, and as gross as that sounds, blood types don’t matter for drinking blood since he wasn’t going for a transfusion, to begin with.
And finally, what this episode excelled the most with is its unpredictability and in that regard, Jojo’s creator Hikohiro Araki delivered that in spades! I don’t even know will happen next at this point and yet I’m still compelled to keep watching.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
