English Dub Review: Dr. STONE “Wave of Science”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

With the newly acquired tungsten, Magma pounds it into dust for Senku to experiment on. While Senku makes a paste out of it, he leaves it to Chrome to make a pin-point way of heating the tungsten inside the glass. He and Senku have a bonding moment, which makes Kaseki wistful about never having a crafting buddy. Senku and Chrome confirm that they’re his crafting buddies, and he cries tears of joy. Once both parties do their parts, they successfully create a tungsten filament.

After that, Senku has Kaseki create an air vacuum. The kids get to work on making gold wire while Chrome and Senku learn to make plastic. Senku also creates home-furnaces for the huts, providing comfort and care for the villagers. while Gen makes batteries. All the elements eventually combine together to create the long awaited cell phone.

Our Take

Hold on, just trying to wipe the tears that were caused by that Kaseki scene away. Okay, now we can do a review.

They’ve all worked so hard to create such a modern device — to see it finally come to fruition is outrageous. Sometimes, things in Dr. STONE have a way of working out too perfectly, but at the same time, everything is so fascinating and heartfelt that it doesn’t really put a dent in the series. Chrome and Senku need to embrace Kaseki more — it was great to see Senku give him a real high five.

The random singing part with Gen was a bit left-field — it seemed like maybe he had a battery commercial stuck in his head, or maybe he was once in one. There wasn’t much elaboration there, but the voice was appreciated.

Considering that they now have a cell phone, will they need to build another one? Will everyone — even the villains — be able to hear their phone calls?

Guess we’ll have to ring it up and see.
