A History of “The Simpsons” in Video Games
The Simpsons: Bart’s Nightmare

Developer: Sculptured Software
Publisher: Acclaim Entertainment
Platforms: SNES, Sega Genesis
Release Date: September 1992
In 1992, The Simpsons made their Super Nintendo debut with Bart’s Nightmare. The new 16-bit platform allowed for increased graphics, which was met with mixed reviews. The game follows Bart as he falls asleep doing homework and is transported to a dreamscape in which he must navigate to return home. Divided between a side-scrolling adventure and various shoot-em-up mini-games, Bart goes through his own variations include Bartzilla, Bartman, and Indiana Bart. Of all the previous video game adaptations, Bart’s Nightmare takes things to the strangest of places yet as he faces down TVs, pixies, and even Homer Kong.
There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
