A History of “The Simpsons” in Video Games
Bart Simpson’s Escape From Camp Deadly
Developer: Imagineering
Publisher: Acclaim Entertainment
Platforms: Game Boy
Release Date: November 1991
Bart Simpson’s Escape from Camp Deadly is the first Simpson’s title released for the handheld console, Game Boy. In the side-scrolling platformer, Bart and Lisa attend a summer camp operated by the nephew of Mr. Burns. Ironfist Burns intends to make the children of the camp suffer, for no real purpose, yet it is up to Bart and his spit wads to defeat evil councillors, bullies, and hornets. The single player game is loosely based on the episode “Kamp Krusty”; however, the show did not air until after the game was released. The game was not received well being criticized for its unoriginal gameplay and having complicated graphics for the low bit handheld device. The lack of series characters is also a disappointment, showcasing only Bart and Lisa from the show.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
