Post Disney-FOX: This Week’s Episode Of “The Simpsons” Might Be One Of The Show’s Most Controversial (And We’re All Better For It)
BURN IT ALL DOWN!
Anyone thinking that Disney was going to be fitting Mickey Mouse gloves on The Simpsons must be thinking differently after last Sunday’s episode entitled “D’oh Canada” which might be the most controversial episode in the show’s eponymous 30th season.
The episode was fantastic and is enjoying critical acclaim from us. However, we’re not done talking about it because the subjects that were being parodied are all pissed off and only further proves that this franchise is still water-cooler worthy even in a week where Avengers:Endgame and Game of Thrones probably took most of the ink, Disney/FOX’s longest running animated series in primetime still finds a way to remind Earth who the original viral franchise really is and you don’t have to go back to an episode that premiered 20+ years ago to find it.
Take, for example, last Sunday’s gag against Upstate NY. The point of the bit was to more or less shed light on the number of people leaving some very expensive cities like Utica, Syracuse, and others which has actually been a talking point of Donald Trump as of late. Senior adviser to Andrew Cuomo, Rich Azzopardi, had this to say of the episode:
“There always remains work to be done but — dumb cheap shots aside — facts are facts: jobs are up, unemployment is down, millennials are coming back and it’s clear that Poochie was an uncredited writer on that episode,” Azzopardi tweeted. “However, I still want a Fighting Hellfish tattoo.”
In fact, NY State feels so strongly about this that the founders of the NYS Fair have even offered free tickets to the producers and writers of the show, which I guess one being Poochie?, to come and attend to see the state’s best offerings. Funny fact, the producers were in town not too long ago in Cooperstown, NY where the classic episode of The Simpsons “Homer At The Bat” was inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame. The mayor of Niskayuna was also in on the gag and warmly opened Homer and the gang back for a longer visit…all class!
As with most episodes of “The Simpsons”, the writers drop numerous comedy bombs wherever they go, and as you can guess from the title of the episode (D’oh Canada) Canada was at the writers’ becking call. For fans thinking South Park had already obliterated the country in terms of comedic value, The Simpsons went bananas singling out specific areas of Canada for comedic riffing. Some of it was light and similar to what WWE does, sports is a hot topic. The “Ned Flanders to the North” killed me. The Ottawa Senators became a punchline, but got off easy compared to the local residents of Newfoundland who were named as “Newfies” and chastised for clubbing baby seals, all of which would convince most of The Simpsons family to escape Canada whereby they had opted to pick an American location where there was plenty of room to go unnoticed by the local authorities:

It wasn’t all bad though, The Simpsons producers made sure that they left the NFC North with some respect by noting the beautiful scenery from the area. Reminding everyone no matter how sharp the claws are on The Simpsons, there’s still a whole load of heart.
The Simpson’s made a visit to WINDSOR on last nights episode. Nice shot of the Detroit skyline. How cool is that!? #YQG #DTW pic.twitter.com/5uviv2eYXX

"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
