English Dub Review: STAR BLAZERS: Space Battleship Yamato 2202 “ Farewell, Teresa! Flowers for Two Deslers”

I bid thee…farewell.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

While it looked as though the two Desler’s were gonna reunite, Keyman opts to rejoin the Yamato crew in a quest to Earth to stop the Gatlantians from destroying their planet. Meanwhile, Desler gets a new ally and the two are headed to Gamilas so that Desler can reaffirm his power.

Our Take

Essentially, this week’s episode takes a chess board, knocks it over, then resets the pieces only we’ve got a third team to think about now…Desler’s allies. This makes for compelling storytelling at it’s best to complete with continued breathtaking visuals, especially when we’re messing around with Teresa for a bit in the flower garden. I thoroughly enjoyed the sequence involved with saving Keyman from certain death as it showcased the producers already the rock-solid reputation of intergalactic action aficionados but making sure the heart is being seen by all those involved. I don’t think the big story this episode is the decision that Keyman made, I think the big story is the rise of Desler, mainly because he appears to be going back to his old ways of assuring the virility of Gamilas once and for all.
